Raising Money For Charity: Simple But Effective Ideas

Raising Money For Charity: Simple But Effective Ideas

Raising much-needed funds for charity can be one of the most life-affirming things a person can do. Not only will you have fun, make friends, and organise something special. You will be doing it for the benefit of a cause or situation that truly matters to you.

Charities are almost entirely reliant on the compassion and engagement of others. Many have completely unsung heroes volunteering for them, sometimes even at great personal risk. We might be inspired to raise funds for a charity that combats an illness that has affected our family. We might feel not enough is being done to protect the rights of animals or children. There may even be a local cause that we feel passionately about. Whatever the issue, charities need funds to be able to function effectively. The funds usually go on marketing, training, campaigns and research. All the negativity and suffering in the world can make many of us feel powerless. It’s time to take action and give something back, however large or small.

Coffee Mornings and Bake Sales

It is not always possible to take time off work to organise an event, so bring the event with you! If the environment is suitable, a charity coffee morning or bake sale is a great way to raise funds. Many charity coffee mornings have caught on as an annual event. They are a pleasant way to add a bit of variety in the office and energise everyone with a sweet treat! Double-check in advance if anyone has allergies, but don’t be discouraged. Even supplementing the snacks with boiled sweets and tea and coffee will be welcome. But if you’re confident at baking, there are many vegan, gluten-free recipes that taste fantastic. Ask for donations towards the cakes and have collection boxes for people who want to donate a little more. Bring pamphlets and extra information about the cause to inspire them. Be sure to take photos to post on social media so that you can encourage others to do something similar!

A Charity Gig

If you have more time, funds, or experience, charity gigs can be exceptionally successful. Keep costs down by creating your own pamphlets and flyers. There are many striking, royalty-free images online. Search for eye-catching designs or the top 5 nature wallpapers, for example. Ticket sale profits can go to charity either in full or in part (be sure to disclose which) and generate a lot of media interest!

A Sponsored Walk

It can be tempting to grab people’s attention with an extreme activity for charity. Climbing mountains, bungee-jumping and sky-diving all seem to be particularly popular. But the fact is that a lot of the money raised may actually go on organising the activity itself. Travelling to the right location, insurance, and fees all add up. Even if these expenses come from your own pocket, it is still arguably money that could have gone towards the cause. Consider instead a sponsored walk. It’s affordable with many varied routes and can still be impressive in its distance or location. Many people are less reluctant to donate to a cause that doesn’t seem simply an exercise in having fun! Worldwide travel and daredevil stunts have a place in charity fundraising. But they also attract the criticism of being expensive and risky. Sponsored walks are a more affordable, down-to-earth alternative. Canvass friends, family, and colleagues for sponsorship!
