Natural Habitat: Why Your Garden Should Be An Extension Of Your Home

You should never let your garden become just that extra added space where the pets can get a breath of fresh air, or the kids can run around. Your garden should be a beautiful extension of your home.

It should blend seamlessly with your interior or offer a bright explosion of contrast as something unexpected. We all need more fresh air in our lives. So get all the family to put their tech down and embrace the natural habitat of the garden. Here are some ideas on how to create a green space worthy of spending time in.

Couples Retreat

If the garden is just for the two of you, you can focus more on a landscaped beauty. Invest in some extravagant topiary and a pagoda hideout for shelter from the sun. If you want a decorative garden, use scoria in pretty colours of red and blue to add texture to your space. And choose brightly coloured plants and flowers that you can find joy in, and make you want to hang out in the garden more. Think about including flowers such as candy daylily, roses and bright zinnias. For a beautiful aroma also invest in jasmine and lavender to create a feast for the senses. If you’re going to be entertaining, spend money on plush outdoor dining furniture. And also invest in an elegant chiminea and fairy lights for a magical touch. And of course, a high-tech manly barbeque to keep the boys happy. And if you are keen to be more self-sufficient why not add a vegetable and herb garden so you can grow your own? Food tastes fresher, and there’s much smugness to be taken from being able to forage in your garden for herbs and veg you can include at dinner parties. Make your garden a big part of your home to really make the most of your property.

Family Garden

If you have young kids, you want to make your garden family friendly without compromising on its beauty. The best thing to do here is to work with two different sections. Get a landscaper to create a section for you and your partner and then a designated area for play. Regarding safety avoid water at all costs. Children can drown in just a few inches of water, so it’s best to simply avoid. In your section include plants and flowers that attract wildlife and are beautiful to watch as they grow. Also, consider timber decking where you can place a barbeque and seating area for entertaining friends. Think about investing in solar lights and a chiminea for evening dining too. In the kid’s section invest in a swing, a slide and a sand pit if you have toddlers. Older children will appreciate a treehouse or an oversized homemade tipi for somewhere to hide out. Also include waterproof storage where they can keep their bats, balls and spades and buckets. For a children’s garden, it’s also nice to include an area where they can sow and grow. Choose plants such as sunflowers, cosmos and marigolds which are easy to grow. Creating a patch for each child will also teach them the responsibility of watering and nurturing their own special garden in a fun way. You can even buy them their own set of child-friendly garden tools, so they feel like a proper grown-up! Use your family friendly garden as a place to enjoy as many outdoor activities as possible. Because it certainly beats staying inside in front of the TV.
