The key to modern interior design is to keep things simple. You may be tempted to have elaborate patterns on your wallpaper or crazy carpet for the floor. These ideas are fun and inventive, but they aren’t contemporary. Current interior design trends are to make things as simple as possible. Use basic colour schemes like black, white, and grey. They may sound quite boring, but they come together really well. And, you can still have patterned wallpaper, it just needs to be subtle. I find that subtlety is much more effective than being loud.
Normally, it can take you ages to decide on what flooring your house should have. But, if you want a modern home, then the choice is simple. You shouldn’t be looking at anything other than laminate flooring. For me, it’s the best choice around if you want to elicit a modern design. Carpet is in the past and can make a home look old and outdated. Hardwood flooring is similar to laminate, but a little more rustic rather than modern. Then, you have tiles which are good for your bathroom and kitchen, but not practical to have anywhere else. Laminate flooring looks great, is cheap to buy, and easy to maintain.
To truly turn your home into a modern masterpiece, you need to fill it with modern technology. In your living room, you’ll want a nice flat screen TV and state of the art sound system. In the kitchen, you’ll need modern appliances everywhere you look. These things can seriously change the look and feel of a home, trust me. You should even consider getting AC units installed too; they make your house look even more contemporary. If you walk into someone's house, and they have air conditioning, you immediately think woah they’re keeping up with the times. A word of warning, though, most AC repair companies will advise you to get maintenance regularly. Otherwise, your modern AC unit will soon break down and be a burden on your interior design.
If you want to bring your house into the new age, then you have to be innovative with some of the things you do. Make the most of your staircase by building storage units into it. Or, convert your attic into a beanbag reading room. These are just two example of innovation in the home, and there are loads more out there. If you’re innovative with aspects of your home, then it will look ultra modern and futuristic.
I think it’s good to try and refresh your home and make it more contemporary. Some people will move house just to live in a newer home. But, with my tips, you can create a modern masterpiece without having to spend tonnes of money or go through the stress of mo
